Renata Fitzgerald was born in England and moved to Stratford with her family in 1965. She originally studied Philosophy at the University of Guelph, graduating in 1972, at which point she spent a year living and working in the North West Territories, followed by travels to India, where she spent time in the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Dharmsala in Himachal Pradesh. In 1979 she returned to Canada and settled in Elora Ontario where she soon began to study Fine Art at the University of Guelph. Upon graduation in 1985 she moved to Guelph, where she worked and painted, exhibiting her work locally and in Toronto. In 1994 she travelled to Guatemala where she painted and exhibited her work, and spent long stretches of time living and painting in Mexico and Central America. Fitzgerald returned to Stratford in 2000, where she continues to paint and exhibit.
Recently I have become interested in painting reflections. I am a nature lover and enjoy walking our trails in Stratford, Ontario, taking in the beauty along the river. My recent paintings are based on these walks and the sights and reveries I encounter on my wanderings along the river banks.
