Collection: KIM WILKIE
Kim Wilkie received her Honors Fine Arts Studio Degree with Distinction in 2006 from Western University, with her unique blend of painting and textiles, primarily stitching and embroidery. Upon graduating she received the Embroiderer's Guild Award from the London, Ontario Chapter: it was noted that Kim used stitching and embroidery throughout her degree in many different modalities. Continuing her exploration in art she received a post graduate certificate in Expressive Arts in 2015 at Fleming College (Haliburton Campus). Her process is deeply intuitive and combines her love of painting and textiles in beautifully coloured abstracted artworks. Kim has exhibited regularly in juried and non-juried group and solo exhibitions since 1994. She was born and raised in London, Ontario and now resides in Huron County.
"I am a Canadian artist who considers my work to be a personal journey. It is my mediative process and physical response to my materials that leads me to a metaphysical language within my work. There is an ebb and flow between my two chosen material practices: painting/drawing and textiles in their many forms. My work contains both materials at times or stated in their own regard. My art is developed through a sense of meditative play where the end product is indeterminate. These indeterminate seemingly organic forms are objectified expressions, be it paint based or textile based, has something familiar to me from my experiences in life in recent times or from the past. These forms can reveal a personal reflection from a dream or a reflection of my external life. It is the spiritual essence in these works where it is my hope and belief that I get at my artistic metaphysical language, so that my work carries anima."
